MULTI-SPACE - THE SOLUTION FOR NEW WORK PRACTICES

Many studies have shown the inextricable link between the design of tertiary spaces in the workplace and well-being at work.

Although this primarily depends on human relationships, other important factors include the workspace being used, effective acoustic design and the quality of common areas at work. 92% of employees state that design has an impact on their well-being (Actineo Barometer 2013).
Open space is now a reference in the industry. Firstly, because of its financial interest as it reduces the real estate costs for each employee. But also because this type of workspace offers greater flexibility than a closed environment.
Multi-space meets the requirements of new collaborative and smart work practices while avoiding some of the inconveniences of open spaces (noise, lack of workstation privacy, increased stress, etc.).
While open space is generally limited to benches and meeting/conference areas, multi-space increases the number of areas dedicated to well-defined activities. Staff members can choose the space best suited to their task at a given moment, whether they are having a meeting, having a coffee, looking for a quiet place to work, relaxing or making a phone call. Multi-space also enables different types of work to coexist together in the same office.
Another aim of this new type of design is to promote mobility and interactions. Nowadays, 3 out of 5 employees work on the move, making it essential to take this method of working into account. Along with other solutions, multi-space makes it possible to change positions regularly. Employees can switch between standing in conference rooms, sitting or even lying on a sofa!
Employees are at the heart of the multi-space concept. Design adapts to meet the needs of teams and not the other way around. It is a living and breathing environment that must reflect creativity and movement, promoting collective intelligence and the synergy between the different talents of the business.
Multi-space working generates some changes for which staff are not always prepared. As for any new organisational method, employees need to be supported through the change in order for the design project to be a success.
